THE LIVE ROUTE
BEFORE THE ROOM FILLS
Glasses, fruit, flowers and place settings are prepared before guests arrive. The details matter because the live format depends on a room made for listening—not a results page.
WHY THE LIVE TABLE MATTERS
Page One Indie Screenplay Festival runs monthly live events for independent screenwriters. Scripts are submitted through FilmFreeway and selected projects are brought into a shared room. If a screenplay has no produced film, a live table read and an in-depth discussion keep attention on the writing itself. If a film has already been produced, the finished work is screened first and the conversation returns to the screenplay.
Students, amateur writers and professionals meet fellow screenwriters and filmmakers on equal footing. In Slovenia, the festival is experienced as a gathering: the audience listens, asks questions, compares page and screen, and can continue the exchange around the shared table.
SELECTION MECHANICS
Writers enter their work through the festival’s official FilmFreeway listing.
Selected projects are assembled for a live festival event in Slovenia.
No produced film means a table read and script discussion. A produced film means a screening followed by discussion of the screenplay.
ONE TABLE / TWO PRESENTATION ROUTES
Each monthly programme is assembled from selected work. The project’s current form determines what the room encounters first, while the screenplay remains the common reference throughout.
TABLE ROUTE 01
SELECTED SCREENPLAY / NO PRODUCED FILM
The written screenplay is brought into the room without requiring a finished film. The live read leads into an in-depth discussion of the project as writing.

SELECTED SCREENPLAY / PRODUCED FILM EXISTS
The finished film is screened for the room. The conversation then returns to the screenplay to examine how the written work became screen work.
EVENT CADENCE
Establish the selected screenplay and its current form.
For unproduced work, centre the screenplay in a live table read and in-depth exchange.
Watch the finished film when it accompanies the selected screenplay.
Discuss the script after the screening and open the exchange to the room.
INSIDE THE EXCHANGE
WHAT THE ROOM FEELS LIKE
Audience members encounter a project in real time rather than as a title in an online list. They hear the table read or watch the film, then stay for a page-led exchange. For selected writers, that means immediate questions from other writers and filmmakers; for guests, it means seeing how a screenplay changes when different people read, hear and discuss it.
The formal conversation sits inside a fuller festival rhythm of arrivals, shared tables, coffee and evening gatherings. A question raised around the screenplay can continue one-to-one after the group discussion.
BETWEEN THE FORMAL MOMENTS
AFTER THE DISCUSSION
The flower wall records another part of the festival experience: guests meeting, celebrating and remaining together after the page-led conversation.
THE LIVE ROOM
The live programme closes the distance between selected writers, their work and the people responding to it. The screenplay is introduced, heard or screened, and discussed in the same shared space.
